The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O thou enveloped! (1) Arise and warn, (2) And thy Lord do thou magnify! (3) Thy raiment purify, (4) And uncleanness do shun, (5) and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, (6) And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! (7) Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, (8) Surely that day will be a day of anguish, (9) Dolorous for the unbelievers. (10) Leave Me alone with he whom I created (11) and whom I have granted abundant wealth (12) and sons standing before him, (13) And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; (14) Yet he wants that I should give him more. (15) By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. (16) I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. (17) Verily, he thought and plotted; (18) death seize him, how he determined! (19) May be then be accursed, how he plotted! (20) Then he considered [again]; (21) Then frowned he and scowled. (22) then he retreated, and waxed proud. (23) and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. (24) This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" (25) Him shall I fling unto the burning. (26) What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? (27) It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! (28) It glows and burns the skin. (29) Over it are nineteen [powers]. (30) And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. (31)
