The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Cloaked one, (1) arise and give warning! (2) proclaim the greatness of your Lord, (3) and purify your robes, (4) And banish all trepidation. (5) And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). (6) and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. (7) Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, (8) that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. (9) Not easy upon the disbelievers. (10) Leave Me alone with he whom I created (11) And then bestowed upon him ample means, (12) And sons abiding in his presence (13) And made life smooth and comfortable for him! (14) yet he is eager that I increase him. (15) Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself (16) [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! (17) Lo! He reflected, and determined -- (18) So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! (19) May be then be accursed, how he plotted! (20) Then he beheld, (21) Then he frowned and he scowled; (22) and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, (23) and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! (24) "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" (25) Soon I will cast him into hell. (26) - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - (27) It leaveth naught; it spareth naught (28) Blackening the skins. (29) Over it are Nineteen. (30) And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. (31)
