In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou enveloped! 1 Rise up and warn! 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 And all abomination shun! 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 Then he looked, 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
