The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, (1) Arise and warn! (2) And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! (3) And thine raiment purify. (4) And all abomination shun! (5) Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, (6) Exercise patience to please your Lord. (7) So when the Trumpet will be blown. (8) that shall be a Harsh Day (9) For the infidels, not easy. (10) Leave Me with him whom I created alone, (11) And to whom I granted extensive wealth (12) and sons standing before him, (13) To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! (14) Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- (15) By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. (16) We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. (17) Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] (18) May he be condemned! (19) Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. (20) Then he looked around, (21) Then frowned he and showed displeasure. (22) Then he turned back and was proud; (23) Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; (24) This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" (25) I will cast him into hell. (26) What do you think Hell-fire is? (27) It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; (28) Blackening the skins. (29) Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). (30) We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. (31)
