The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], (1) stand up, deliver your warning, (2) Thy Lord magnify (3) cleanse your clothes, (4) and flee from the statues! (5) And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). (6) And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. (7) For when the trumpet shall sound, (8) that very Day shall be a day of anguish, (9) Dolorous for the unbelievers. (10) Leave Me alone with he whom I created (11) and designated for him ample wealth, (12) and children living in his presence, (13) And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. (14) And yet he desires that I should add more! (15) Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. (16) I will constrain him to a hard ascent. (17) For lo! he did consider; then he planned - (18) Perish he! How maliciously he devised! (19) Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? (20) and then he looks [around for new arguments,] (21) Then he frowned and scowled; (22) Then turned his back and waxed proud, (23) And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” (24) this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” (25) Him shall I fling unto the burning. (26) And what will make you realize what hell is? (27) It leaves and spares no one and nothing. (28) making [all truth] visible to mortal man. (29) Over it are nineteen. (30) And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. (31)
