The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! (1) Arise and warn! (2) And your Lord glorify (3) And your clothing purify (4) And all abomination shun! (5) and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. (6) be patient unto your Lord. (7) When the trumpet is sounded,. (8) So that is a tough day. (9) Not of ease, for disbelievers. (10) Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. (11) and to whom I have granted resources vast, (12) And sons always present by his side, (13) whose life I have made run smoothly (14) and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. (15) By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. (16) I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. (17) For he thought and he plotted;- (18) death seized him, how was his determining! (19) Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; (20) Then he looked round; (21) Then he frowned and scowled; (22) Then he turned back and was arrogant (23) And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; (24) 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' (25) I will cast him into Hell-fire (26) What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? (27) Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- (28) It scorches people's skin (29) and it has nineteen angelic keepers. (30) We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. (31)
