56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! (1) arise and warn, (2) And thine Lord magnify! (3) Purify your inner self, (4) And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! (5) And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). (6) and be patient unto thy Lord. (7) For when the trumpet shall sound, (8) Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. (9) Far from easy for those without Faith. (10) Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, (11) To whom I granted resources in abundance, (12) and sons that stand in witness. (13) And made (life) smooth for him. (14) Yet he wants that I should give him more. (15) Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; (16) I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! (17) For he had thought and calculated. (18) May he be accursed, how he planned! (19) Again, death seized him, how was his determining! (20) Then he beheld, (21) Then he frowned and scowled; (22) Then he turned back and was arrogant (23) and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! (24) "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" (25) I will surely roast him in the Scorching. (26) And what will make you realize what hell is? (27) It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; (28) Darkening and changing the colour of man! (29) there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- (30) And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. (31)
