The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou enveloped! (1) Arise, and warn, (2) And your Lord do magnify, (3) Purify your inner self, (4) and shun uncleanness, (5) And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). (6) And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. (7) For when the trumpet blows (8) That Day will be a difficult day (9) It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. (10) Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! (11) and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, (12) And sons always present by his side, (13) And made things easy for them. (14) and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. (15) Never. He is refractory of Our signs. (16) We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. (17) Verily, he thought and plotted; (18) So let him be cursed! How he plotted! (19) Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. (20) Then he beheld, (21) Then he frowned and scowled, (22) Then he turned back and was proud; (23) And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; (24) This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" (25) Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. (26) And what have you understood, what hell is! (27) It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. (28) it scorches (even) the skin. (29) Over it are nineteen. (30) We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. (31)
