The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O thou enveloped! (1) arise, and warn! (2) proclaim the greatness of your Lord, (3) cleanse your clothes, (4) And all abomination shun! (5) Do not give, thinking to gain greater (6) and be patient unto thy Lord. (7) Then when the horn shall be blown, (8) That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, (9) Far from easy for the disbelievers. (10) Leave Me with him whom I created alone, (11) whom I have endowed with abundant riches, (12) and children as [love's] witnesses, (13) And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; (14) and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! (15) Never. He is refractory of Our signs. (16) I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! (17) For he had thought and calculated. (18) So let him be cursed! How he plotted! (19) What an evil plan he has made! (20) Then he thought; (21) then frowned and scowled; (22) then he retreated, and waxed proud. (23) and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; (24) This is naught but the word of a mortal. (25) I will cast him into hell. (26) And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? (27) It leaves and spares no one and nothing. (28) It strips away the hide of man. (29) and it has nineteen angelic keepers. (30) And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. (31)
