The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, (1) arise and give warning! (2) And your Lord do magnify, (3) and purify your clothing, (4) And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! (5) And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. (6) but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. (7) When the Horn is blown, (8) that will surely be a hard day, (9) for the unbelievers not easy. (10) LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, (11) And for whom I appointed wealth extended. (12) And sons dwelling in his presence, (13) And made life smooth and comfortable for him! (14) then he is eager that I should do more. (15) By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. (16) and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. (17) Lo! He reflected, and determined -- (18) and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: (19) May be then be accursed, how he plotted! (20) and then he looks [around for new arguments,] (21) then he frowned and scowled, (22) Then he turned back and was haughty; (23) And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” (24) These are only words from a mere mortal". (25) I will soon fling him into hell. (26) And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? (27) It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! (28) It scorches the mortal. (29) Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). (30) We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. (31)
