The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O the Cloaked One! (Prophet Mohammed peace and blessings be upon him) (1) Arise and warn (2) Thy Lord magnify, (3) Thy raiment purify, (4) And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! (5) Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! (6) but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. (7) When the Horn is blown, (8) that day will be a harsh day, (9) Dolorous for the unbelievers. (10) Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, (11) and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, (12) And children to be by his side! (13) To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! (14) and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! (15) Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. (16) I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! (17) He reflected, and then determined (18) and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: (19) yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! (20) Then he looked, (21) Then frowned he and showed displeasure. (22) and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly (23) Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; (24) This is naught else than speech of mortal man. (25) Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! (26) What will let you know what the Scorching is like! (27) It neither spares, nor releases, (28) it scorches the skin; (29) Above it are nineteen. (30) We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. (31)
