The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! (1) arise and warn, (2) and exalt your Lord, (3) And your garments purify! (4) and shun uncleanness, (5) And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, (6) But for your Lord be patient. (7) And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, (8) Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. (9) For the infidels, not easy. (10) Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, (11) And for whom I appointed wealth extended. (12) And sons present by his side. (13) and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: (14) Then he desires that I should add more. (15) Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. (16) I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. (17) Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. (18) Perish he! How maliciously he devised! (19) And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! (20) May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, (21) Then he frowned and scowled, (22) then he retreated, and waxed proud. (23) And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; (24) this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” (25) [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! (26) And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? (27) It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] (28) It glows and burns the skin. (29) there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- (30) We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. (31)
