The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, (1) Arise and warn! (2) Thy Lord magnify, (3) And thine raiment purify. (4) stay away from sins (5) And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, (6) And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! (7) For when the trumpet is sounded, (8) Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. (9) Dolorous for the unbelievers. (10) Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, (11) and whom I have granted abundant wealth (12) and sons ever present with him, (13) and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: (14) After all that he desires that I should give more; (15) Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). (16) I shall inflict on him hardship, (17) Lo! He reflected, and determined -- (18) and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: (19) Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- (20) Then he looked, (21) Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; (22) then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, (23) And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” (24) "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" (25) Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. (26) And what do you know what Hell is? (27) It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; (28) It strips away the hide of man. (29) Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). (30) We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. (31)
