The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, (1) Arise, and warn, (2) And your Lord glorify (3) cleanse your clothes, (4) And all abomination shun! (5) And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, (6) For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! (7) For when the trumpet shall sound, (8) Surely that day will be a day of anguish, (9) For the unbelievers, anything but easy. (10) Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! (11) To whom I granted resources in abundance, (12) and sons that stand in witness. (13) And for whom I smoothed everything. (14) and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! (15) By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. (16) I shall inflict on him hardship, (17) He planned and plotted. (18) So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! (19) Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! (20) Then he looked around, (21) then he frowned and scowled, (22) Then turned his back and waxed proud, (23) Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; (24) This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" (25) Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! (26) And what have you understood, what hell is! (27) It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; (28) It scorches people's skin (29) over it are nineteen. (30) We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. (31)
