The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! (1) stand up, deliver your warning, (2) And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! (3) And thine inner self purify! (4) And uncleanliness avoid (5) and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, (6) For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! (7) For when the trumpet shall sound, (8) that very Day shall be a day of anguish, (9) Far from easy for those without Faith. (10) Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. (11) And gave him vast wealth. (12) and children as [love's] witnesses, (13) And for whom I smoothed everything. (14) and who still desires more. (15) No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. (16) I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! (17) He reflected and then hatched a scheme. (18) and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: (19) Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? (20) He looked (at others); (21) Then frowned he and scowled. (22) Then he turned back and was big with pride, (23) and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! (24) "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" (25) I will cast him into Hell-fire (26) And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? (27) It neither leaves, nor spares. (28) it scorches the skin; (29) Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). (30) We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. (31)
