56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! (1) Arise and deliver thy warning! (2) And thy Lord do thou magnify! (3) And thine raiment purify. (4) And uncleanliness avoid (5) And do not confer favor to acquire more (6) be patient unto your Lord. (7) When the Trumpet is sounded, (8) It will be a day of distress, (9) for the unbelievers not easy. (10) Leave Me alone with he whom I created (11) And give him vast riches, (12) and sons to be by his side, (13) And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. (14) After all that he desires that I should give more; (15) By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: (16) I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! (17) Verily he considered, and devised. (18) May he be condemned! (19) Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! (20) Then he considered [again]; (21) Then frowned he and scowled. (22) and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, (23) said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. (24) It is nothing but the word of a mortal' (25) [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! (26) And what have you understood, what hell is! (27) It neither spares, nor releases, (28) it scorches (even) the skin. (29) Over it are nineteen keepers. (30) We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man.
