56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 stay away from sins 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 And made things easy for them. 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 May he be condemned! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
