The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O the Cloaked One! (Prophet Mohammed peace and blessings be upon him) (1) Arise and warn, (2) And thy Lord do thou magnify! (3) And thine inner self purify! (4) And stay away from idols. (5) Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! (6) And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. (7) So when the Trumpet will be blown. (8) that shall be a Harsh Day (9) not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! (10) Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- (11) To whom I granted resources in abundance, (12) and children as [love's] witnesses, (13) And made things easy for them. (14) Yet he desires that I should give more. (15) Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself (16) I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. (17) For he had thought and calculated. (18) death seize him, how he determined! (19) And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! (20) Then looked he, (21) Then he frowned and scowled, (22) then he retreated and grew proud (23) Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; (24) Naught is this but the word of Man. (25) Him shall I fling unto the burning. (26) What will let you know what the Scorching is like! (27) It shall not spare, nor leave. (28) It shrivelleth the man. (29) Over it are nineteen [powers]. (30) And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. (31)
