In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 and flee from the statues! 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 And children present [with him] 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
