The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! (1) stand up, deliver your warning, (2) and exalt your Lord, (3) And thine raiment purify. (4) stay away from sins (5) And do not favour others in order to receive more. (6) For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! (7) For when the trumpet shall sound, (8) that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. (9) for the unbelievers not easy. (10) Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, (11) and designated for him ample wealth, (12) And children present [with him] (13) And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; (14) After all that he desires that I should give more; (15) Never. He is refractory of Our signs. (16) Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. (17) Surely he reflected and guessed, (18) Perish he! How maliciously he devised! (19) And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! (20) Then he looked round; (21) then he frowned and scowled, (22) Then he turned back and was arrogant (23) said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. (24) This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" (25) Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! (26) and what will teach thee what is Sakar? (27) It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] (28) and it burns the flesh. (29) Above it are nineteen guards. (30) And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. (31)
