The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! (1) Arise and warn! (2) proclaim the greatness of your Lord, (3) And thy garments keep free from stain! (4) And uncleanness do shun, (5) And do not favour others in order to receive more. (6) and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. (7) When the Trumpet shall be sounded, (8) that day will be a harsh day, (9) Not of ease, for disbelievers. (10) Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, (11) And gave him abundant wealth (12) And children present [with him] (13) whose life I have made run smoothly (14) Yet he desireth that I should give more. (15) By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: (16) I will constrain him to a hard ascent. (17) Lo! He reflected, and determined -- (18) (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! (19) Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! (20) Then looked he, (21) And frowned and puckered his brow, (22) then he retreated, and waxed proud. (23) and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. (24) 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' (25) Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! (26) And what have you understood, what hell is! (27) It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], (28) it scorches the skin; (29) and it has nineteen angelic keepers. (30) And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. (31)
