In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you who are wrapped up in your mantle, (1) Stand up in Prayer by night, all but a small part of it; (2) It may be half the night or a little less than that (3) Or add to it, and recite the Quran as it ought to be recited. (4) For we shall charge thee with a word of weight. (5) Indeed, the first part of night is heavier in tread, and more upright in speech. (6) True, there is for thee by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties: (7) And remember thou the name of thy Lord, and devote thyself to Him with an exclusive devotion. (8) He is the Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He. So take Him alone for your Guardian, (9) And be patient over what they say and avoid them with gracious avoidance. (10) And leave Me and the rejecters, the possessors of ease and plenty, and respite them a little. (11) We have fetters (for them) and a blazing fire, (12) and food that chokes, and grievous suffering (13) On the Day the earth and the mountains will convulse and the mountains will become a heap of sand pouring down. (14) We have sent an Apostle to you as a witness against you, as We had sent an apostle to the Pharaoh. (15) However, the Pharaoh disobeyed the Messenger and We seized him with a severe retribution. (16) How then, if you disbelieve, will you preserve yourselves on the day which will even turn the children hoary? (17) The Day when the heavens will be rent asunder and God's promise shall be fulfilled. (18) Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. (19)
