Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Pen (Al-Qalam) before The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
You, who have wrapped yourself up with a mantle, (1) Stand (to pray) all night, except a little. (2) (Worship Him) for more or less than half of the night (3) Or increase thereto. And intone the Qur'an with measured intonations. (4) We are about to reveal to you a mighty word. (5) [and,] verily, the hours of night impress the mind most strongly and speak with the clearest voice, (6) Verily, there is for you by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties, (7) Remember the Name of your Lord and dedicate yourself devoutly to Him. (8) Lord of the East and Lord of the West there is no God except Him, therefore make Him your sole Trustee of affairs. (9) Bear patiently whatever they say, do not yield to them and keep on preaching decently to them. (10) And leave Me and the rejecters, the possessors of ease and plenty, and respite them a little. (11) for with Us there are fetters, and a furnace, (12) And a food that chokes, and a painful torment. (13) One Day the earth and the mountains will be in violent commotion. And the mountains will be as a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. (14) We have sent to you, (O men!) a messenger, to be a witness concerning you, even as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh. (15) But Firon disobeyed the apostle, so We laid on him a violent hold. (16) If therefore you disbelieve, how will you guard yourselves against a day that shall make the children grey-headed? (17) The heaven will break apart therefrom; ever is His promise fulfilled. (18) This, surely, is an admonition. So let him who will, take the right path to his Lord. (19)
