Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Pen (Al-Qalam) before The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you the (sleeping) enwrapped one! (1) Stand up for worship during the night, except for some part of it. (2) (Worship Him) for more or less than half of the night (3) or add to it a little; and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. (4) Soon shall We send down to thee a weighty Message. (5) Surely the rising by night is the firmest way to tread and the best corrective of speech. (6) Verily, there is for you by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties, (7) And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with [complete] devotion. (8) (He is) Lord of the East and the West: there is no god but He: take Him therefore for (thy) Disposer of Affairs. (9) Bear patiently with what they say, and ignore them politely. (10) And leave Me alone [to deal] with those who give the lie to the truth - those who enjoy the blessings of life [without any thought of God] - and bear thou with them for a little while: (11) Lo! with Us are heavy fetters and a raging fire, (12) choking food and a painful punishment. (13) On the day when the earth and the hills rock, and the hills become a heap of running sand. (14) We have indeed sent a Noble Messenger towards you, a present witness over you the way We had sent a Noble Messenger towards Firaun. (15) But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger; so We seized him with a heavy Punishment. (16) If you disbelieve, how will you guard yourself against the Day that will make children gray haired, (17) Whereon the heaven will be cleft asunder? His Promise is certainly to be accomplished. (18) Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. (19)
