Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Pen (Al-Qalam) before The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O you the (sleeping) enwrapped one! (1) Stand (to pray) all night, except a little. (2) of one-half thereof - or make it a little less than that, (3) Or increase thereto. And intone the Qur'an with measured intonations. (4) We are about to cast upon you a weighty Word. (5) [and,] verily, the hours of night impress the mind most strongly and speak with the clearest voice, (6) Verily there is for thee by day occupation prolonged. (7) And remember the Name of thy Lord, and devote thyself unto Him very devoutly. (8) Lord of the east and the west! No God is there but He! Wherefore take Him for thy trustee. (9) Bear patiently with what they say, and ignore them politely. (10) And leave Me Alone to deal with the beliers (those who deny My Verses, etc.), and those who are in possession of good things of life. And give them respite for a little while. (11) Surely with Us are heavy fetters and a flaming fire, (12) and food that chokes, and grievous suffering (13) On that day, the earth and the mountains will be violently shaken, and the mountains will be turned into heaps of moving sand. (14) Surely We have sent unto you a Messenger as a witness over you, even as We sent to Pharaoh a Messenger, (15) and Pharaoh rebelled against the apostle, whereupon We took him to task with a crushing grip. (16) How then, if you disbelieve, will you preserve yourselves on the day which will even turn the children hoary? (17) The Day when the heavens will be rent asunder and God's promise shall be fulfilled. (18) Verily, this is an admonition, therefore whosoever will, let him take a Path to His Lord! (19)
