Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou enwrapped in thy robes, (1) stand up to pray for much of the night. (2) A half thereof, or abate a little thereof, (3) and recite the Quran in a distinct tone; (4) For We are about to send down to you a message of considerable gravity. (5) Verily, the rising by night (for Tahajjud prayer) is very hard and most potent and good for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (understanding) the Word (of Allah). (6) Indeed during the day you have a long schedule of occupations. (7) And remember the Name of thy Lord, and devote thyself unto Him very devoutly. (8) [He is] the Lord of the East and the West; there is no deity except Him, so take Him as Disposer of [your] affairs. (9) Bear patiently with what they say and with a fine abandonment forsake them. (10) And let Me alone with the beliers, owners of ease: and respite thou them a little. (11) Indeed We have heavy fetters and a blazing fire. (12) and a food that chokes, and a grievous chastisement. (13) On a Day whereon the earth and the mountains shall quake, and the mountains shall become a sand-heap poured forth. (14) We have sent an Apostle to you as a witness against you, as We had sent an apostle to the Pharaoh. (15) But Firon disobeyed the apostle, so We laid on him a violent hold. (16) Then how shall ye, if ye deny (Allah), guard yourselves against a Day that will make children hoary-headed?- (17) The heavens itself will be rent asunder (on that day). His promise is bound to be fulfilled. (18) This is indeed an advice; so whoever wishes may take the path towards his Lord. (19)
