In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
O thou folded in garments! 1 rise (to pray) the night except a little; 2 A half of it or a little less 3 and recite the Quran in a distinct tone; 4 Soon shall We send down to thee a weighty Message. 5 Surely getting up at night is the best means of subduing the self and is more suitable for uprightness in speech. 6 During the day, you are preoccupied with many activities. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with [complete] devotion. 8 Lord of the East and the West; there is no Allah save Him; so choose thou Him alone for thy defender - 9 And bear patiently the vain things they utter, and gracefully forsake them. 10 And leave Me alone [to deal] with those who give the lie to the truth - those who enjoy the blessings of life [without any thought of God] - and bear thou with them for a little while: 11 for with Us there are fetters, and a furnace, 12 And a food that chokes, and a painful torment. 13 On a day when the earth and the mountains will tremble, and the mountains turn into dunes of flowing sand. 14 Surely We have sent to you an Apostle, a witness against you, as We sent an apostle to Firon. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him with a terrible seizing. 16 So how will you save yourselves, if you disbelieve, on a day that will turn children old? 17 Whereby heaven shall be split, and its promise shall be performed. 18 Verily this is a reminder. So let him who desires take the way to his Lord. 19
