Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Pen (Al-Qalam) before The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O THOU enwrapped one! (1) worship (God) for a few hours at night. (2) Half of it, or a little less than that, (3) Or increase a little upon it, and recite the Qur’an slowly in stages. (4) Behold, We shall bestow upon thee a weighty message (5) Surely getting up at night is the best means of subduing the self and is more suitable for uprightness in speech. (6) You are indeed much occupied during the day with the affairs of the world. (7) Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Lord of the eastern and western regions, with due sincerity. (8) Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He; so take Him for a Guardian. (9) And bear thou with patience whatsoever they say, and depart from them with a becoming departure. (10) And let Me alone with the beliers, owners of ease: and respite thou them a little. (11) for with Us there are fetters, and a furnace, (12) choking food and a painful punishment. (13) (They will come across all this) on the Day when the earth and the mountains shall tremble violently and the mountains shall crumble into heaps of scattered sand. (14) We have indeed sent a Noble Messenger towards you, a present witness over you the way We had sent a Noble Messenger towards Firaun. (15) But Fir'aun (Pharaoh) disobeyed the Messenger [Musa (Moses)], so We seized him with a severe punishment. (16) How, then, if you refuse to acknowledge the truth, will you protect yourselves on that Day which shall turn the hair of children grey, (17) On that day, the heavens will be rent asunder. This is the decree of God which has already been ordained. (18) Surely this is a reminder, then let him, who will take the way to his Lord. (19)
