Juz 29
Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Pen (Al-Qalam) before The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O you the (sleeping) enwrapped one! (1) worship (God) for a few hours at night. (2) Half of it - or subtract from it a little (3) Or a little more; and recite the Qur'an in slow, measured rhythmic tones. (4) Behold, We shall bestow upon thee a weighty message (5) Verily, the rising by night (for Tahajjud prayer) is very hard and most potent and good for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (understanding) the Word (of Allah). (6) whereas by day a long chain of doings is thy portion. (7) But recite the name of your Lord withdrawing yourself from everything, devoting yourself exclusively to Him. (8) The Sustainer of the east and the west [is He]: there is no deity save Him: hence, ascribe to Him alone the power to determine thy fate, (9) And bear thou patiently what they say, and forsake them graciously. (10) And leave them to Me these wealthy deniers and give them some respite. (11) Surely with Us are heavy fetters and a flaming fire, (12) and a food that chokes, and a grievous chastisement. (13) on the Day the earth and mountains shall shake and the mountains crumble into shifting sand dunes. (14) We have sent an Apostle to you as a witness against you, as We had sent an apostle to the Pharaoh. (15) Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him remorselessly. (16) Then how, if ye disbelieve, will ye protect yourselves upon the day which will turn children grey, (17) And the heaven shall be split therein. His promise indeed must be fulfilled. (18) Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills may take to his Lord a way. (19)
