Juz 29
Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Pen (Al-Qalam) before The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhammad) wrapped, (1) Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little - (2) Half of it - or subtract from it a little (3) or add to it [at will]; and [during that time] recite the Qur'an calmly and distinctly, with thy mind attuned to its meaning. (4) Verily, We shall send down to you a weighty Word (i.e. obligations, legal laws, etc.). (5) [and,] verily, the hours of night impress the mind most strongly and speak with the clearest voice, (6) Verily, there is for you by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties, (7) And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with [complete] devotion. (8) [He is] the Lord of the East and the West; there is no deity except Him, so take Him as Disposer of [your] affairs. (9) And bear patiently the vain things they utter, and gracefully forsake them. (10) And leave Me Alone to deal with the beliers (those who deny My Verses, etc.), and those who are in possession of good things of life. And give them respite for a little while. (11) We have in store for them heavy fetters and a blazing Fire, (12) And food that chokes and a painful punishment - (13) On that day, the earth and the mountains will be violently shaken, and the mountains will be turned into heaps of moving sand. (14) We have sent to you, (O men!) a messenger, to be a witness concerning you, even as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh. (15) In response Firaun disobeyed the Noble Messenger, so We seized him with a severe seizure. (16) How then, if you disbelieve, will you preserve yourselves on the day which will even turn the children hoary? (17) on which the heaven will split apart, and His promise is done. (18) This is indeed an advice; so whoever wishes may take the path towards his Lord. (19)
