Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Pen (Al-Qalam) before The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhammad) wrapped, (1) Stand up for worship during the night, except for some part of it. (2) Half of it, or lessen it a little, (3) or add to it a little; and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. (4) Surely We will make to light upon you a weighty Word. (5) [and,] verily, the hours of night impress the mind most strongly and speak with the clearest voice, (6) Verily, there is for you by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties, (7) Remember the Name of your Lord and dedicate yourself devoutly to Him. (8) He is the Lord of the east and the west, there is no deity but Him, so take Him as your Guardian. (9) And patiently endure upon what the disbelievers say, and leave them for good. (10) Leave it to Me to deal with the affluent ones who give the lie (to the Truth), and bear with them for a while. (11) Indeed, with Us [for them] are shackles and burning fire (12) And a Food that chokes, and a Penalty Grievous. (13) On a day when the earth and the mountains will tremble, and the mountains turn into dunes of flowing sand. (14) Lo! We have sent unto you a messenger as witness against you, even as We sent unto Pharaoh a messenger. (15) and Pharaoh rebelled against the apostle, whereupon We took him to task with a crushing grip. (16) If therefore you disbelieve, how will you guard yourselves against a day that shall make the children grey-headed? (17) On that day, the heavens will be rent asunder. This is the decree of God which has already been ordained. (18) This is indeed an advice; so whoever wishes may take the path towards his Lord. (19)
