Juz 29
Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Pen (Al-Qalam) before The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
You, who have wrapped yourself up with a mantle, (1) Stand up in Prayer by night, all but a small part of it; (2) Half of it - or subtract from it a little (3) Or increase thereto. And intone the Qur'an with measured intonations. (4) Behold, We shall bestow upon thee a weighty message (5) Surely, getting up at night [for worship] is the most potent means of subduing the self and most suitable for the word [of prayer]. (6) You have by day prolonged occupations. (7) Remember the Name of your Lord and dedicate yourself devoutly to Him. (8) Lord of the East and the West; there is no Allah save Him; so choose thou Him alone for thy defender - (9) And patiently endure upon what the disbelievers say, and leave them for good. (10) Leave those to Me who deny, the lovers of ease and comfort; and bear with them for a while. (11) for with Us there are fetters, and a furnace, (12) And food that chokes, and a painful punishment. (13) On the Day when the earth with all its mountains quake and the mountains become heaps of shifting sand. (14) Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness upon you just as We sent to Pharaoh a messenger. (15) but Pharaoh rebelled against the Messenger, so We seized him remorselessly. (16) Then how can you avoid the punishment, if you disbelieve, on a Day that will make the children grey-headed (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)? (17) Whereon the sky will be cleft asunder? His Promise needs must be accomplished. (18) This is indeed a Reminder. Let whosoever will take the Path to his Lord. (19)
