Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Pen (Al-Qalam) before The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O THOU enwrapped one! (1) Rise to pray in the night except a little, (2) half of it, or reduce it a little; (3) or add a little), and chant the Koran very distinctly; (4) Behold, We shall cast upon thee a weighty word; (5) Indeed, the first part of night is heavier in tread, and more upright in speech. (6) whereas by day a long chain of doings is thy portion. (7) And remember thou the name of thy Lord, and devote thyself to Him with an exclusive devotion. (8) Lord of the East and the West; there is no Allah save Him; so choose thou Him alone for thy defender - (9) And bear patiently the vain things they utter, and gracefully forsake them. (10) And leave Me with [the matter of] the deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow them respite a little. (11) Lo! with Us are heavy fetters and a raging fire, (12) and food that chokes, and grievous suffering (13) On a Day whereon the earth and the mountains shall quake, and the mountains shall become a sand-heap poured forth. (14) Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness upon you just as We sent to Pharaoh a messenger. (15) But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger; so We seized him with a heavy Punishment. (16) Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white- haired? (17) On that day, the heavens will be rent asunder. This is the decree of God which has already been ordained. (18) This is indeed an advice; so whoever wishes may take the path towards his Lord. (19)
