Juz 29
Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Pen (Al-Qalam) before The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you the (sleeping) enwrapped one! (1) stand up to pray for much of the night. (2) of one-half thereof - or make it a little less than that, (3) Or a little more, and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. (4) We shall soon entrust to you a message heavy (with solemnity). (5) Surely, getting up at night [for worship] is the most potent means of subduing the self and most suitable for the word [of prayer]. (6) You are indeed much occupied during the day with the affairs of the world. (7) Remember the name of your Lord, and devote yourself to Him wholeheartedly. (8) The Sustainer of the east and the west [is He]: there is no deity save Him: hence, ascribe to Him alone the power to determine thy fate, (9) And be patient over what they say and avoid them with gracious avoidance. (10) Leave Me to those who cry lies, those prosperous ones, and respite them a little, (11) Lo! with Us are heavy fetters and a raging fire, (12) And food that chokes and a painful punishment, (13) On the day the earth and mountains will rock violently, and the mountains turn to a heap of poured-out sand. (14) We have sent you a Messenger, who will witness your deeds, just as We sent a Messenger to the Pharaoh. (15) But Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him with a terrible seizing. (16) Then how, if ye disbelieve, will ye protect yourselves upon the day which will turn children grey, (17) Whereon the heaven will be cleft asunder? His Promise is certainly to be accomplished. (18) Verily this is an Admonition: therefore, whoso will, let him take a (straight) path to his Lord! (19)
