Jinns (Al-Jinn)
28 verses, revealed in Mecca after A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf) before Y S (Yaa Seen)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ SAY: "I HAVE been informed that a number of jinns had listened; then said: 'We have heard the wondrous Qur'an, (1) Guiding unto rectitude; wherefore we have believed therein, and we shall by no means associate with our Lord anyone. (2) for [we know] that sublimely exalted is our Sustainer's majesty: no consort has He ever taken unto Himself, nor a son! (3) And that the foolish one among us used to speak concerning Allah an atrocious lie. (4) We had in fact thought that men and jinns would never speak a lie about God, (5) Some men used to seek refuge with the jinn in the past, but that only increased their insolence. (6) And indeed they supposed, even as ye suppose, that Allah would not raise anyone (from the dead) - (7) (The jinn continued saying): "We made our way towards heaven, but we found it filled with stern guards and a flame. (8) We sat in observatories to listen; but any one who listened found a shooting star in wait for him. (9) And that we know not whether evil is meant for those who are on earth or whether their Lord means to bring them good: (10) And among us there are righteous folk and among us there are far from that. We are sects having different rules. (11) And we know that we cannot escape from Allah in the earth, nor can we escape by flight. (12) Hence, as soon as we heard this [call to His] guidance, we came to believe in it: and he who believes in his Sustainer need never have fear of loss or injustice. (13) ‘And that some among us are Muslims and some are the unjust; and whoever has accepted Islam it is they who have thought rightly.’ (14) But as for the unjust, they will be, for Hell, firewood.' (15) Had they (jinn and mankind) remained steadfast in their religion (Islam), We would certainly have given them abundant water to drink (16) In order to try them through it. But whoever turns away from the remembrance of his Lord, will be given increasing torment by Him." (17) The mosques are for God's worship -- so do not invoke anyone else along with God -- (18) When the devotee of God stood up to invoke Him (the jinns) crowded upon him (to listen). (19)
