Jinns (Al-Jinn)
28 verses, revealed in Mecca after A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf) before Y S (Yaa Seen)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ (Muhammad), say, "It has been revealed to me that a party of jinn has listened (to the recitation) of the Quran and has told (their people), "We heard an amazing reading (1) which guides to the right path; so we have believed in it and we will not associate anyone with our Lord, (2) And that He-- exalted be the majesty of our Lord-- has not taken a consort, nor a son: (3) The dimwit one (the devil) among us has been telling confused lies about God. (4) and we had thought that men and jinn would never speak against God a lie. (5) But there were certain men of mankind who would take refuge with certain men of the jinn, and they increased them in vileness, (6) ‘And that they assumed, like you humans assume, that Allah would not send any Noble Messenger.’ (7) And that we sought to reach heaven, but we found it filled with strong guards and flaming stars. (8) We sat in observatories to listen; but any one who listened found a shooting star in wait for him. (9) ‘And we do not know whether harm is intended for those on the earth, or whether their Lord intends goodness for them.’ (10) And among us are the righteous, and among us are [others] not so; we were [of] divided ways. (11) We knew that we could never challenge God whether we stayed on earth or fled elsewhere. (12) When we heard the guidance, we believed in it; and whosoever believes in his Lord, he shall fear neither paltriness nor vileness. (13) And some of us have surrendered, and some of us have deviated. Those who have surrendered sought rectitude; (14) But as for the unjust, they will be, for Hell, firewood.' (15) If they (non-Muslims) had believed in Allah, and went on the Right Way (i.e. Islam) We should surely have bestowed on them water (rain) in abundance. (16) "That We might try them by that (means). But if any turns away from the remembrance of his Lord, He will cause him to undergo a severe Penalty. (17) And [He revealed] that the masjids are for Allah, so do not invoke with Allah anyone. (18) When the devotee of God stood up to invoke Him (the jinns) crowded upon him (to listen). (19)
