Jinns (Al-Jinn)
28 verses, revealed in Mecca after A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf) before Y S (Yaa Seen)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Say thou: it hath been revealed unto me that a company of the jinn listened, and said, verily we have listened to a Recitation wondrous. (1) which guides to the right path; so we have believed in it and we will not associate anyone with our Lord, (2) And that He-- exalted be the majesty of our Lord-- has not taken a consort, nor a son: (3) The ignorant fool among us has spoken outrageously against Allah, (4) and we had thought that men and jinn would never speak against God a lie. (5) "Certain human beings sought refuge with certain jinn and this increased the rebelliousness of those jinn. (6) So they began to think, even as you do, that God would not resurrect any one. (7) (The jinn continued saying): "We made our way towards heaven, but we found it filled with stern guards and a flame. (8) We sat in observatories to listen; but any one who listened found a shooting star in wait for him. (9) And that we know not whether evil is meant for those who are on earth or whether their Lord means to bring them good: (10) 'There are among us some that are righteous, and some the contrary: we follow divergent paths. (11) We knew that we could never challenge God whether we stayed on earth or fled elsewhere. (12) And that when we heard the guidance, we believed in it; so whoever believes in his Lord, he should neither fear loss nor being overtaken (by disgrace): (13) And that some of us are those who submit, and some of us are the deviators; so whoever submits, these aim at the right way: (14) but those who are wrongdoers will become the fuel of Hell." (15) If people were to keep firmly to the Right Way, We would have vouchsafed them abundant rain (16) ‘In order to test them with it; and whoever turns away from the remembrance of his Lord He will put him in a punishment that keeps on increasing.’ (17) The places of worship belong to God; so call not, along with God, upon anyone. (18) When the servant of God stood calling on Him, they were wellnigh upon him in swarms. (19)
