The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on (1) The infidels, of which there is no averter. (2) No one can defend him against God, the Lord of the exalted positions. (3) Whereby the angels ascend unto Him and also the spirit, On a Day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. (4) So persevere with becoming patience. (5) Indeed, they see it [as] distant, (6) but, We see it as near! (7) On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. (8) And the mountains will be like wool, (9) even intimate friends will not inquire about their friends, (10) though they shall be within sight of each other. The guilty one will gladly ransom himself from the torment of that Day by sacrificing his own children, (11) his companion wife, his brother, (12) And his family who had stood by him, (13) And all those who are in the earth then only if the redemption saves him! (14) Nay, verily it is a furnace (15) A fire that melts the hide. (16) calling him who drew back and turned away, (17) And amasses (wealth) then shuts it up. (18) ۞ VERILY, man is born with a restless disposition. (19) when misfortune touches him he starts lamenting, (20) And niggardly when good befalls him (21) Not so those devoted to Prayer;- (22) [and] who incessantly persevere in their prayer (23) those in whose wealth is a right known (24) to those who ask [for help] and to the destitute; (25) those who firmly believe in the Day of Recompense, (26) and fear the chastisement of their Lord (27) for none may ever feel secure from the punishment of their Lord; (28) And those who preserve their chastity (29) except from their wives and what their right hands own, for these they are not blameworthy. (30) But whoever seeks beyond that, then they are the transgressors - (31) And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant (32) And those who stand firm in their testimonies. (33) And those who keep a guard on their prayer, (34) Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. (35)
