The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place (1) Upon the infidels -- which none would be able to repel -- (2) [since it will come] from God, unto whom there are many ways of ascent: (3) To whom the angels and the soul take a day to ascend, whose length is fifty thousand years. (4) Therefore, [O believer,] endure all adversity with goodly patience: (5) They deem it to be remote. (6) But We see it (quite) near. (7) On that Day the heaven shall become like molten copper, (8) And the mountains will be like wool, (9) even intimate friends will not inquire about their friends, (10) Though they shall be made to see one another [(i.e. on the Day of Resurrection), there will be none but see his father, children and relatives, but he will neither speak to them nor will ask them for any help)], - the Mujrim, (criminal, sinner, disbeliever, etc.) would desire to ransom himself from the punishment of that Day by his children. (11) His wife and his brother, (12) And his kin that harboured him (13) And all that are in the earth, if then it might deliver him. (14) By no means! Verily, it will be the Fire of Hell! (15) snatching away the scalp, (16) It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. (17) and amassed wealth and covetously hoarded it. (18) ۞ Surely man was created fretful, (19) when misfortune touches him he starts lamenting, (20) And niggardly when good reaches him;- (21) Not so are the prayerful. (22) and constant in their prayers. (23) And those within whose wealth is a known right (24) for the beggar and the outcast, (25) And those who testify to the Day of Requital. (26) And those who are fearful of their Lord's doom - (27) Surely the chastisement of their Lord is (a thing) not to be felt secure of-- (28) And those who protect their private organs (from adultery). (29) except from their spouses and those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock], for which they incur no blame -- (30) So those who desire more than this it is they who are the transgressors. (31) and those who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges; (32) who testify to what they have witnessed, (33) And those who are mindful of their moral obligations. (34) They will live in gardens with honour. (35)
