The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)

In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- (1) which will inevitably seize the disbelievers. (2) From God, the Lord of the steps (of progression), (3) The angels and Jibreel, ascend towards Him the punishment will befall on a day which spans fifty thousand years. (4) Therefore endure with a goodly patience. (5) Verily! They see it (the torment) afar off, (6) But We see it very near. (7) The day the sky becomes like molten brass, (8) and the mountains will become like tufts of wool, (9) And no friend will ask concerning his friend. (10) (Though) they shall be made to see each other. The guilty one would fain redeem himself from the chastisement of that day by (sacrificing) his children, (11) His wife and his brother, (12) And his family who had stood by him, (13) and all persons of the earth, if only he could thus save himself. (14) By no means! for it would be the Fire of Hell!- (15) that will strip off the scalp. (16) and it will claim all those who turned their backs [on the true faith] and turned away [from the truth], (17) and amassed wealth and hoarded it. (18) ۞ Human beings are created greedy. (19) If evil befalls him he is perturbed; (20) when good visits him, grudging, (21) Except those devoted to Salat (prayers) (22) who are constant in prayer; (23) who, from their wealth is a known right (24) For the beggar and the destitute; (25) And those who believe in the Day of Recompense, (26) and go in fear of the punishment of their Lord, (27) For their Lord's displeasure is the opposite of Peace and Tranquillity;- (28) And those who guard their sex except from their wives and women slaves of old (29) except in regard to their spouses and those whom their right hands possess, for in regard to them they are not reproachable, (30) but whoever goes beyond this is a transgressor; (31) and those who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges; (32) and those who are upright in their testimonies; (33) and who take due care of their Prayer: (34) Those shall be in Gardens, high-honoured. (35)
