The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on (1) to those who deny the truth. No power can hinder God (2) From Allah, the Lord of the ways of Ascent. (3) by which the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him in one Day which will last for fifty thousand years. (4) Therefore do thou hold Patience,- a Patience of beautiful (contentment). (5) They see it [the Day of Judgement] to be far off, (6) But We see it (quite) near. (7) The Day that the sky will be like molten brass, (8) And the mountains will be like wool, (9) And no friend will ask after a friend, (10) as they are given sight of them. The sinner will wish that he might ransom himself from the chastisement of that day even by his sons, (11) And his wife and his brother (12) And his kin that sheltered him. (13) and whosoever is in the earth, altogether, so that it might save him. (14) By no means! Verily it is a Flame. (15) will strip-off the flesh (16) It will claim all such as turn their backs [on what is right,] and turn away [from the truth,] (17) and amassed (riches) and hoarded. (18) ۞ Surely man is greedy by nature. (19) Fretful when evil touches him; (20) If good comes to him he holds back his hand, (21) save those that pray (22) Those who remain constant in their Salat (prayers); (23) They are those who assign a certain share of their property (24) For the beggar and the destitute. (25) and those who believe in the Day of Judgement (26) And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,- (27) (from their Lord's chastisement none feels secure) (28) and who are mindful of their chastity, (29) except from their wives and what their right hands own, for these they are not blameworthy. (30) but any who seeks to go beyond that, it is indeed they who are the transgressors, (31) and who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges: (32) who testify to what they have witnessed, (33) and are steadfast in their prayers. (34) Those shall be in Gardens, high-honoured. (35)
