The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on (1) which will inevitably seize the disbelievers. (2) From Allah, Owner of the ascending steps. (3) To Him the angels and the Spirit mount up, in a day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. (4) So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience. (5) They think that it (the Day of Judgment) is far away. (6) But We see it [as] near. (7) On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. (8) and the mountains will become like tufts of wool, (9) And no friend will ask after a friend, (10) Though they will be put in sight of each other,- the sinner's desire will be: Would that he could redeem himself from the Penalty of that Day by (sacrificing) his children, (11) His wife and his brother, (12) And the family in which he was. (13) and of whoever [else] lives on earth, all of them - so that he could but save himself. (14) But never. It is pure white flame (15) stripping away his skin, (16) It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. (17) and amassed (riches) and hoarded. (18) ۞ Indeed, the human was created grudging and impatient. (19) Fretful when evil befalleth him (20) And, when good befalleth him, grudging; (21) save those that pray (22) Who are constant at their worship (23) In whose wealth a due share is included (24) For those who beg, and for the needy who cannot even ask. (25) And those who hold to the truth of the Day of Judgment; (26) And those who fear the torment of their Lord, (27) Verily the torment of their Lord is not a thing to feel secure from. (28) and those who guard their private parts, (29) Except with their wives and the (women slaves and captives) whom their right hands possess, for (then) they are not to be blamed, (30) but any who seeks to go beyond that, it is indeed they who are the transgressors, (31) and who preserve their trusts and their covenant, (32) And those who stand firm in their testimonies. (33) And those who protect their prayers. (34) They will be in gardens, honored. (35)
