The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
ONE who is minded to ask might ask about the suffering which [in the hereafter] is bound to befall (1) which will inevitably seize the disbelievers. (2) [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. (3) Whereby the angels ascend unto Him and also the spirit, On a Day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. (4) So persevere with becoming patience. (5) they see it as being far off; (6) Whereas We see it impending. (7) On that Day the heavens shall become like molten brass, (8) And the mountains will be like wool, (9) And friend shall not ask of friend (10) though they are in sight of each other. To ransom himself from the punishment of that Day, the sinner will wish that he might even ransom himself by his sons, (11) And his spouse and his brother. (12) and of all the kinsfolk who ever sheltered him, (13) and all the people of the earth, if that could deliver him. (14) By no means! for it would be the Fire of Hell!- (15) stripping away his skin, (16) It calleth him who turned and fled (from truth), (17) who amassed and hoarded. (18) ۞ Surely man was created fretful, (19) when misfortune touches him he starts lamenting, (20) And, when good befalleth him, grudging; (21) except those that pray (22) Those who remain constant in their Salat (prayers); (23) And those in whose wealth there is a fixed portion. (24) for the needy and the deprived, (25) And those who hold to the truth of the Day of Judgment; (26) and fear the chastisement of their Lord (27) for, behold, of their Sustainer's chastisement none may ever feel [wholly] secure; (28) And those who guard their sex except from their wives and women slaves of old (29) Except with their wives and the bondwomen in their possession, for there is no reproach on them. (30) but whoever goes beyond this is a transgressor; (31) And those who respect their trusts and covenants; (32) And those who stand by their testimony (33) And those who guard (the sacredness) of their worship;- (34) such people will receive due honor in Paradise.
