The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
A doubter once demanded that punishment be immediately meted out, (1) Upon the disbelievers, which none can repel, (2) From Allah, Lord of the Ascending Stairways (3) Whereby the angels ascend unto Him and also the spirit, On a Day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. (4) So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience. (5) Verily they behold it afar off. (6) while We think that it is near at hand. (7) Upon the day when heaven shall be as molten copper (8) And the hills become as flakes of wool, (9) No loyal friend will ask another loyal friend (10) They will be seeing them; the guilty will wish if only he could redeem himself from the punishment of that day, by offering his sons. (11) His wife and his brother, (12) And the nearest of his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, (13) And all those who are on the earth, to save himself. (14) By no means! It will be the fierce flame (15) will strip-off the flesh (16) It shall insistently summon him who turned his back and retreated, (17) And accumulated wealth and hoarded it. (18) ۞ Surely man is created of a hasty temperament (19) when misfortune touches him he starts lamenting, (20) when good visits him, grudging, (21) except those that pray, (22) Those who remain constant in their Salat (prayers); (23) In whose wealth a due share is included (24) For those who beg, and for the needy who cannot even ask. (25) And those who testify to the Day of Requital. (26) And those who are fearful of their Lord's doom - (27) the punishment of their Lord is not something for them to feel secure of, (28) And those who guard their private parts, (29) Except with their wives and the bondwomen in their possession, for there is no reproach on them. (30) But he who seeks to go beyond this, these it is that go beyond the limits-- (31) who honor their trust and promises, (32) And those who are in their testimonies upright (33) and are steadfast in their prayers. (34) Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. (35)
