The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place (1) Upon the disbelievers, which none can avert, (2) From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. (3) To Him ascend the angels and the Spirit in a day the measure of which is fifty thousand years. (4) Therefore, [O believers] behave with seemly patience. (5) They think that it (the Day of Judgment) is far away. (6) But We see it very near. (7) On that Day the heaven shall become like molten copper, (8) And then the mountains shall become like unto wool dyed. (9) And no friend will ask of a friend, (10) (Though) they shall be made to see each other. The guilty one would fain redeem himself from the chastisement of that day by (sacrificing) his children, (11) And his spouse and his brother (12) And the nearest of his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, (13) and all those on earth. (14) By no means! Surely it is a flaming fire (15) snatching away the scalp, (16) It shall insistently summon him who turned his back and retreated, (17) and amassed (riches) and hoarded. (18) ۞ Indeed, the human was created grudging and impatient. (19) bewailing when evil befalls him, (20) And refraining, when good reaches him. (21) Except those who establish prayer. (22) Those who remain steadfast to their prayer; (23) In whose wealth a due share is included (24) For the beggar who asks, and for the unlucky who has lost his property and wealth, (and his means of living has been straitened); (25) And those who believe in the Day of Recompense (26) And those who are fearful of the punishment of their Lord - (27) Lo! the doom of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure - (28) And those who of their private parts are guards. (29) except from their wives and what their right hands own, for these they are not blameworthy. (30) But whoso seeketh more than that, those are they who are transgressors; (31) who honor their trust and promises, (32) And those who stand by their testimony (33) And those who keep a guard on their prayer, (34) all these shall live honourably in the Gardens. (35)
