The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on (1) those who deny the truth. [Know, then, that] nothing can ward it off, (2) No one can defend him against God, the Lord of the exalted positions. (3) To Him the angels and the Spirit (Gabriel) ascend in a day, the measure of which is fifty thousand years. (4) (Muhammad), exercise patience with no complaints. (5) behold, they see it as if far off; (6) And We behold it nigh. (7) The day when the sky will be like molten silver. (8) and the mountains will be like tufts of wool, (9) And no friend will ask after a friend, (10) though they shall be within sight of each other. The guilty one will gladly ransom himself from the torment of that Day by sacrificing his own children, (11) And his wife and his brother (12) And the family in which he was. (13) And all that are in the earth, if then it might deliver him. (14) No, in truth, it is a Furnace! (15) that will strip off the scalp. (16) It calleth him who turned and fled (from truth), (17) and who accumulated wealth without spending it for a good purpose. (18) ۞ Human beings are created greedy. (19) Being greatly grieved when evil afflicts him (20) but when good comes upon him, he is grudging (21) Except those who establish prayer. (22) Those who are regular in their prayers. (23) those who give a due share of their wealth (24) For the beggar and the destitute; (25) And those who accept the truth of the judgment day (26) and fear the chastisement of their Lord (27) Surely no one can be secure from the punishment of his Lord, -- (28) And those who guard their chastity, (29) except from their wives and slave girls, in which case they are not to be blamed, (30) but whoever goes beyond this is a transgressor; (31) And those who protect the property entrusted to them, and their agreements. (32) and those who are upright in their testimonies; (33) and who are constant in their prayers. (34) such people will receive due honor in Paradise. (35)
