The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A questioner asked of a chastisement about to fall (1) Upon the disbelievers, which none can repel, (2) (A punishment) from Allah, the Owner of the Elevated Passages. (3) On that Day (of Judgment), long as fifty thousand years, the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him. (4) (Muhammad), exercise patience with no complaints. (5) They surely take it to be far away, (6) And We see it nigh. (7) On the Day the sky will be like murky oil, (8) and the mountains will be like tufts of wool, (9) And no friend will ask concerning his friend. (10) They will be seeing them; the guilty will wish if only he could redeem himself from the punishment of that day, by offering his sons. (11) his companion (wife), his brother, (12) his kin who sheltered him, (13) And whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him. (14) By no means! Verily, it will be the Fire of Hell! (15) A remover of exteriors. (16) calling him who drew back and turned away, (17) And accumulated wealth and hoarded it. (18) ۞ VERILY, man is born with a restless disposition. (19) Fretful when evil befalleth him (20) but when they are fortunate, they become niggardly (21) Not so, however, those who consciously turn towards God in prayer. (22) Those who are regular in their prayers. (23) And those in whose wealth exists a recognised right, (24) For the petitioner and the deprived - (25) who confirm the Day of Doom (26) and go in fear of the chastisement of their Lord (27) Verily the torment of their Lord is not a thing to feel secure from. (28) and those who guard their private parts, (29) Save with their wives and those whom their right hands possess, for thus they are not blameworthy; (30) but those who go beyond that limit are transgressors; (31) (Those) who keep their trusts and their covenant, (32) and perform their witnessings, (33) and who take due care of their Prayer: (34) all these shall live honourably in the Gardens. (35)
