The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place (1) To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer. (2) a chastisement from Allah, the Lord of the ascending steps, (3) On that Day (of Judgment), long as fifty thousand years, the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him. (4) Therefore endure with a goodly patience. (5) They see it [the Day of Judgement] to be far off, (6) But We see it very near. (7) On the day when the heaven shall be as molten copper (8) and the mountains shall be as plucked wool-tufts, (9) And friend shall not ask of friend (10) although they shall be within sight of one another. The guilty one would fain ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his children, (11) And his spouse and his brother. (12) and his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, (13) And all those who are on the earth, to save himself. (14) But never. It is pure white flame (15) tearing away his skin! (16) It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, (17) And hoarded (wealth) and withheld it. (18) ۞ Truly man was created very impatient;- (19) Fretful when evil touches him; (20) and tight-fisted when good fortune visits him, (21) Not so are the prayerful. (22) [and] who incessantly persevere in their prayer (23) And in whose wealth there is a right acknowledged (24) for the impoverished nonrequester and the requester, (25) those who firmly believe in the Day of Recompense, (26) who are afraid of the torment of their Lord, (27) surely the chastisement of their Lord is a thing none can feel secure from (28) And those who guard their chastity, (29) except from their spouses and those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock], for which they incur no blame -- (30) But those who seek more than this will be transgressors; (31) and those who fulfil their trusts and their covenants, (32) and perform their witnessings, (33) And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer: (34) all these shall live honourably in the Gardens. (35)
