The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- (1) (a chastisement meant) for the unbelievers, one which none can avert; (2) From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. (3) On that Day (of Judgment), long as fifty thousand years, the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him. (4) Therefore, [O believers] behave with seemly patience. (5) They see it [the Day of Judgement] to be far off, (6) but, We see it as near! (7) It shall befall on a Day whereon the sky will become like molten brass, (8) and the mountains shall be like puffs of wool. (9) and [when] no friend will ask about his friend, (10) Though within sight of one another. The sinner would like to ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his sons, (11) And his spouse and his brother. (12) the kinsmen who gave him shelter, (13) and all the people of the earth, if that could deliver him. (14) By no means! It will be the fierce flame (15) Eager to roast; (16) and it will claim all those who turned their backs [on the true faith] and turned away [from the truth], (17) and who accumulated wealth without spending it for a good purpose. (18) ۞ Verily, man (disbeliever) was created very impatient; (19) When evil comes upon him he is impatient; (20) and whenever good fortune comes to him, he grows niggardly. (21) Save worshippers. (22) Who persevere in devotion, (23) And those in whose wealth is a recognised right. (24) to those who ask [for help] and to the destitute; (25) And those who believe in the Day of Judgement, (26) and go in fear of the chastisement of their Lord (27) Surely no one can be secure from the punishment of his Lord, -- (28) who guard their privates (29) Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed - (30) But whosoever seeks beyond that, they are the transgressors. (31) and those who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges; (32) and those who are upright in their testimonies; (33) and who guard their prayers [from all worldly intent]. (34) such people will receive due honor in Paradise. (35)
