Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
52 verses, revealed in Mecca after Kingship (Al-Mulk) before The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ The Inevitable! (Day of Judgment). (1) What is the concrete reality? (2) And what do you know what that indubitable event is? (3) Samood and Ad called the striking calamity a lie. (4) So destroyed were the Thamud by a storm of thunder and lightning; (5) and as for the 'Ad - they were destroyed by a storm wind furiously raging, (6) Which He made to prevail against them for seven nights and eight days unremittingly, so that you might have seen the people therein prostrate as if they were the trunks of hollow palms. (7) Do you see any remnants of them? (8) And Firon and those before him and the overthrown cities continuously committed sins. (9) They therefore disobeyed the Noble Messengers of their Lord so He seized them with an intense seizure. (10) Verily when the water rose to great heights, We bore you upon a floating vessel (i.e. the Ark) (11) so that We might make all this a [lasting] reminder to you all, and that every wide-awake ear might consciously take it in. (12) So when the Trumpet is blown with a single blast (13) And the earth and the mountains shall be removed from their places, and crushed with a single crushing, (14) On that day shall the great event come to pass, (15) and heaven shall be split, for upon that day it shall be very frail, (16) and the angels [will appear] at its ends, and above them, eight will bear aloft on that Day the throne of thy Sustainer's almightiness… (17) On that Day you shall be brought to judgment: not [even] the most hidden of your deeds will remain hidden. (18) Those who will receive the books of the records of their deeds in their right hands will say, "Come and read my record. (19) Indeed, I knew that I should come to my reckoning' (20) And he will be in a life of Bliss, (21) in a high Garden, (22) the clusters of whose fruit will be hanging low to be within reach (of the inmates of Paradise). (23) (And told:) "Eat and drink to your fill as reward for (good) deeds you had done in days of yore." (24) But as for him whose record shall be placed in his left hand, he will exclaim: "Oh, would that I had never been shown this my record, (25) and knew nothing of my reckoning. (26) Would that death had taken us away for good. (27) My wealth has not availed me. (28) "My power and arguments (to defend myself) have gone from me!" (29) [Allah will say], "Seize him and shackle him. (30) Then in the Scorch roast him (31) then fasten him with a chain, seventy cubits long. (32) they did not believe in the great God, (33) nor were they concerned with feeding the destitute. (34) and so, no friend has here today, (35) neither any food saving foul pus, (36) Which none but the hellish eat." (37)
