In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ The Sure Reality! 1 What is the Inevitable Calamity? 2 What makes you to know what the Resurrection Verifier is? 3 The tribes of Thamud and 'Ad denied that disaster would strike them: 4 So destroyed were the Thamud by a storm of thunder and lightning; 5 The Ads were destroyed by a swift, destructive gale 6 To which He subjected them for seven nights and eight days in succession, so that thou mightest have seen men during it lying prostrate, as though they were stumps of palms ruined. 7 Do you see any vestige left of them now? 8 And Pharaoh and those before him, and the communities that were destroyed, brought error, 9 And they disobeyed the messenger of their Lord, so He seized them with a seizure exceeding [in severity]. 10 [And] behold: when the waters [of Noah's flood] burst beyond all limits, it was We who caused you to be borne [to safety] in that floating ark, 11 That We might make it a remembrance for you, and the keen ear (person) may (hear and) understand it. 12 So when the Trumpet is blown with a single blast 13 And the earth and the mountains will be lifted up and crushed with a single crush. 14 On that day, the inevitable event will take place 15 And the heaven will split asunder, for that day it will be frail. 16 The angels will stand on all its sides. And on that Day, eight (of them) will carry the Throne of your Lord above them. 17 The Day whereon ye shall be mustered nothing hidden by you shall be hidden. 18 Those who will receive the books of the records of their deeds in their right hands will say, "Come and read my record. 19 Surely I knew that I should have to meet my reckoning. 20 They will have a pleasant life 21 in an exalted garden 22 the clusters of whose fruit will be hanging low to be within reach (of the inmates of Paradise). 23 “Eat and drink with pleasure the reward of what you sent ahead, in the past days.” 24 As for him whose Record will be given to him in his left hand, he will exclaim: “Would that I had never been given my Record, 25 And knew not what my reckoning! 26 “Alas, if only it had been just death.” 27 My wealth has not availed me, 28 and our belief has destroyed us". 29 Lay hold of him and chain him; 30 “Then hurl him into the blazing fire.” 31 Then thrust him into a chain the length of which is seventy cubits. 32 they did not believe in the great God, 33 "And would not encourage the feeding of the indigent! 34 and so, no friend has here today, 35 "Nor hath he any food except the corruption from the washing of wounds, 36 that none excepting the sinners eat.' 37
