52 verses, revealed in Mecca after Kingship (Al-Mulk) before The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ The Inevitable Hour! 1 What is the Reality? 2 And what shall make thee know that which the Inevitable Calamity is. 3 Thamood and Aad belied the Clatterer. 4 The Thamuds were destroyed by a violent blast of sound. 5 And as to Ad, they were destroyed by a roaring, violent blast. 6 Which He made to prevail against them for seven nights and eight days unremittingly, so that you might have seen the people therein prostrate as if they were the trunks of hollow palms. 7 Canst thou (O Muhammad) see any remnant of them? 8 And Firon and those before him and the overthrown cities continuously committed sins. 9 They defied their Lord's messenger, so He seized them with an ever-tightening grip. 10 Indeed, when the water overflowed, We carried your ancestors in the sailing ship 11 so that We might make all this a [lasting] reminder to you all, and that every wide-awake ear might consciously take it in. 12 When a single blast is blown on the trumpet, 13 And the earth with the mountains shall be lifted up and crushed with one crash, 14 On that Day will come what is to come. 15 And the heaven shall cleave asunder, so that on that day it shall be frail, 16 The angels will appear by its sides and, on that Day, eight [angels] will bear your Lord's throne above them. 17 That Day shall ye be brought to Judgment: not an act of yours that ye hide will be hidden. 18 On that Day, he whose Record is given to him in his right hand will say: “Lo! Read my Record! 19 "Surely, I did believe that I shall meet my Account!" 20 Then he shall be in a life well-pleasing 21 In a lofty Garden 22 The Fruits whereof (will hang in bunches) low and near. 23 (They will be told): “Eat and drink with good cheer as a reward for the good deeds you did in the days that have passed by.” 24 And whoever is given his book in his left hand he will say, “Alas, if only my account were not given to me!” 25 And knew not what my reckoning! 26 I wish my death had been the decisive one. 27 My wealth has availed me nothing: 28 Gone from me is my authority." 29 (The stern command will say): "Seize ye him, and bind ye him, 30 then cast him in the Fire, 31 Fasten a chain to them - seventy cubits long - 32 Indeed, he did not used to believe in Allah, the Most Great, 33 Nor he urged on others the feeding of the poor. 34 So no friend has he here this Day, 35 nor any food except foul pus 36 None will eat it except the sinners. 37
