52 verses, revealed in Mecca after Kingship (Al-Mulk) before The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ The Inevitable Hour! (1) What is the Inevitable Hour? (2) And what shall make thee know that which the Inevitable Calamity is. (3) The Thamud and the 'Ad People (branded) as false the Stunning Calamity! (4) So destroyed were the Thamud by a storm of thunder and lightning; (5) And as for 'Ad, they were destroyed by a furious violent wind; (6) Which He imposed on them for seven long nights and eight long days so that thou mightest have seen men lying overthrown, as they were hollow trunks of palm-trees. (7) Now dost thou see any remnant of them? (8) Pharaoh likewise, and those before him, and the Subverted Cities -- they committed error, (9) and rebelled against their Lord's Messenger. So He took them with a stern taking. (10) Lo, when the waters rose, We bore you in the running ship (11) That We might make it a memorial for you, and that remembering ears (that heard the story) might remember. (12) Then when the Trumpet will be blown with one blowing (the first one), (13) and the earth and the mountains are lifted up and then crushed with a single blow, (14) Then on that Day, the Resurrection will occur, (15) And the heaven will split asunder, for that Day it (the heaven will be frail (weak), and torn up, (16) The angels will stand on all its sides. And on that Day, eight (of them) will carry the Throne of your Lord above them. (17) That will be the Day when you shall be brought forth (before Allah) and no secret of yours shall remain hidden. (18) Then as to him who will be vouchsafed his book in his right hand, he shall say: here! read my book! (19) Indeed, I was certain that I would be meeting my account." (20) So he shall be in a life, well-pleasing. (21) In an elevated garden, (22) Its [fruit] to be picked hanging near. (23) 'Eat and drink with wholesome appetite for that you did long ago, in the days gone by.' (24) But as for him whose record shall be placed in his left hand, he will exclaim: "Oh, would that I had never been shown this my record, (25) "And that I had never realised how my account (stood)! (26) I wish my death had been the decisive one. (27) My wealth has not helped me a thing (28) I am bereft of power." (29) Lay hold on him, then put a chain on him, (30) And then expose him to hell-fire (31) Then fasten him with a chain seventy cubits long: (32) “Indeed he refused to accept faith in Allah, the Greatest.” (33) And urged not on the feeding of the wretched. (34) Therefore he has not here today a true friend, (35) Nor any food except filth from the washing of wounds, (36) “Which none except the guilty shall eat.” (37)
