Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
52 verses, revealed in Mecca after Kingship (Al-Mulk) before The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ The Inevitable! (Day of Judgment). (1) And what is that indubitable event? (2) And what do you know what that indubitable event is? (3) The tribes of Thamud and 'Ad denied that disaster would strike them: (4) As for Thamood, they were destroyed by the Screamer; (5) And as for A'ad, they were destroyed by a fierce roaring wind, (6) which continued to strike them for seven nights and eight days so that eventually you could see the people lying dead like the hollow trunks of uprooted palm-trees. (7) Then seest thou any of them left surviving? (8) Pharaoh likewise, and those before him, and the Subverted Cities -- they committed error, (9) They disobeyed the Messenger of their Lord and He seized them with torment which increased with time. (10) Lo! when the waters rose, We carried you upon the ship (11) That We might make it unto you an admonition, and that it might be retained by the retaining ears. (12) And when the trumpet shall sound a single blast. (13) And the earth and the mountains shall be borne and the twain shall be crushed with a single crash. (14) on that Day the Great Event will come to pass. (15) And the sky will be rent asunder, for it will that Day be flimsy, (16) And the angels will be on its sides, and eight angels will, that Day, bear the Throne of your Lord above them. (17) On that Day you shall be brought to judgment: not [even] the most hidden of your deeds will remain hidden. (18) Then he that will be given his Record in his right hand will say: "Ah here! Read ye my Record! (19) Indeed, I knew that I should come to my reckoning' (20) Then he will be in blissful state (21) In a lofty Paradise, (22) The fruit clusters of which are hanging down. (23) Eat and drink pleasantly for what you did beforehand in the days gone by. (24) And as for him who is given his book in his left hand he shall say: O would that my book had never been given me: (25) and that we would never knew what our records contained. (26) Would that death had taken us away for good. (27) My riches have not availed me, (28) There hath perished from me my authority. (29) The angels will be told, "Seize and chain them, (30) Then in the Scorch roast him (31) then fasten him with a chain, seventy cubits long. (32) for, behold, he did not believe in God, the Tremendous, (33) and did not feel any urge to feed the needy: (34) On this day, they will have no friends (35) Nor any food except from the discharge of wounds; (36) “Which none except the guilty shall eat.” (37)
