Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
52 verses, revealed in Mecca after Kingship (Al-Mulk) before The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ The sure calamity! (1) What is the Inevitable Calamity? (2) And what will make thee realise what the Sure Reality is? (3) Thamood and Ad cried lies to the Clatterer. (4) So destroyed were the Thamud by a storm of thunder and lightning; (5) And as for 'Ad, they were destroyed by a furious violent wind; (6) which continued to strike them for seven nights and eight days so that eventually you could see the people lying dead like the hollow trunks of uprooted palm-trees. (7) Can you see any of their survivors? (8) And Pharaoh, and those before him, and the Cities Overthrown, committed habitual Sin. (9) They therefore disobeyed the Noble Messengers of their Lord so He seized them with an intense seizure. (10) Lo! when the waters rose, We carried you upon the ship (11) That We might make it unto you an admonition, and that it might be retained by the retaining ears. (12) So when the Trumpet is blown with a single blast (13) And the earth and the mountains are borne away and crushed with a single crushing. (14) And so, that which must come to pass will on that day have come to pass; (15) And the heaven shall cleave asunder, so that on that day it shall be frail, (16) On its fringes will be angels, eight of them, bearing their Lord's throne aloft. (17) The Day whereon ye shall be mustered nothing hidden by you shall be hidden. (18) Then he that will be given his Record in his right hand will say: "Ah here! Read ye my Record! (19) Surely, I knew that I should meet my reckoning," (20) So he shall have an agreeable life (21) in an exalted garden (22) with its fruits within easy reach. (23) (And it will be said unto those therein): Eat and drink at ease for that which ye sent on before you in past days. (24) However, those who will receive the books of the records of their deeds in their left hands will say, "We wish that this record had never been given to us (25) And knew not what my reckoning! (26) "Ah! Would that (Death) had made an end of me! (27) My wealth has been of no use to me. (28) and our belief has destroyed us". (29) (It will be said): Take him and fetter him (30) And then expose him to hell-fire (31) Fasten a chain to them - seventy cubits long - (32) for, behold, he did not believe in God, the Tremendous, (33) and did not feel any urge to feed the needy: (34) and so, no friend has here today, (35) neither any food saving foul pus, (36) None shall eat it but the sinners. (37)
