Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
52 verses, revealed in Mecca after Kingship (Al-Mulk) before The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The Inevitable Calamity! (1) What is the concrete reality? (2) And what will teach thee what is the Indubitable? (3) The people of Thamud and Ad denied the Day of Judgment. (4) So destroyed were the Thamud by a storm of thunder and lightning; (5) and the 'Ad were destroyed by a furious wind (6) Which Allah imposed on them for seven nights and eight days in succession, so that you could see men lying overthrown (destroyed), as if they were hollow trunks of date-palms! (7) Do you now see any trace of them? (8) The Pharaoh, those who lived before him and the people of the Subverted Cities all persisted in doing evil. (9) And they disobeyed the messenger of their Lord, so He seized them with a seizure exceeding [in severity]. (10) Verily when the water rose to great heights, We bore you upon a floating vessel (i.e. the Ark) (11) That We might make it a Message unto you, and that ears (that should hear the tale and) retain its memory should bear its (lessons) in remembrance. (12) Hence, [bethink yourselves of the Last Hour,] when the trumpet [of judgment] shall be sounded with a single blast, (13) And the earth is moved, and its mountains, and they are crushed to powder at one stroke,- (14) then, on that day, the Terror shall come to pass, (15) and heaven shall be split, for upon that day it shall be very frail, (16) And the angels will be on the sides thereof, and eight will uphold the Throne of thy Lord that day, above them. (17) On that Day you shall be exposed, and no secret of yours will remain hidden. (18) So as for he who is given his record in his right hand, he will say, "Here, read my record! (19) Surely, I knew that I should meet my reckoning," (20) So he shall be in a pleasing life (21) in a high Garden, (22) The fruit clusters of which are hanging down. (23) 'Eat and drink with wholesome appetite for that you did long ago, in the days gone by.' (24) And whoever is given his book in his left hand he will say, “Alas, if only my account were not given to me!” (25) and had not known my account. (26) Oh, would that this [death of mine] had been the end of me! (27) My riches have availed me not; (28) and my authority has vanished.” (29) Seize him and fetter him, (30) “Then hurl him into the blazing fire.” (31) Then, in a chain whereof the length is seventy Cubits, bind him. (32) Surely he did not believe in Allah, the Great, (33) And urged not on the feeding of Al-Miskin (the poor), (34) Wherefore for him here this Day there is no friend. (35) Nor any food except refuse, (36) Which none but the wrongdoers eat. (37)
